Now I have 3 kids under 3. Holy cow, I've been busy. But now that I'm back into the groove of things I've decided to spend a few minutes each day posting here too.

DNA Model Hunt in Salt Lake City on Dec. 5th

I've been fortunate to be able to partner with DNA on their first EVER model hunt! They chose to come to Salt Lake City because of all the beautiful people....of course. Hopefully it's one of many.

I'm helping promote the event as well. If you know anyone....anyone at ALL with that potential model look (see below for requirements), please have them come to this because it truly is the most unique model hunt/ open call that's ever come to SLC. Meaning, no fee's EVER attached which is unheard of in Utah because of all the model scams. Since I started Echo Models in May, a lot has happened for me. I found some amazing models to represent, so amazing it caught the attention of some top agencies in NYC, one in particular, DNA Models (top 5 agency in the world). Once they saw my ability to scout, they immediately called and said they wanted to work with me. And when that call came in, I couldn't stop giggling for a week, a total dream come true.

Anyway, now I have a great relationship with DNA along with others in NY, and my models are going to go places, just wait and see.

Recently, Trudi Tapscott of DNA and I went on KSL's Studio 5 to talk about modeling scams. Here's the video. I thought it would be cool to post here for ya'll to see.

It's about time but I finally started my own management company called Echo Models! Nothing big but I'm really excited about it. If you happen to come across any girls ages 13-20 who are over 5.9 and super thin (sorry, it's an industry standard) then send them my way in good conscience knowing that I don't sell modeling classes or photoshoots. I hand pick them, develop them and send them on to work in the biggest markets in the world (NY, Paris, London, Milan). It's mostly a hobby yes, but I'm so passionate about it which means my heart is in the best interest of the model and her family.

Mom Pant Special!

I went to the zoo the other day with my husband and kids on a very special day. It was "mom pants day", okay so maybe it was just "free day" at the zoo (which is why I went of course) and every mom in town was there. I saw a plethora of mom pants and so I couldn't resist but bring back one of the classic styles to life again. Especially the classic SNL mom pant commercial! By the way, in case you're one of those who think that if you don't wear this style the only alternative is to wear low-rider pants, think again and see below.

1. Buy stretch
2. Get pants with back pockets not too high and not too low.

I know it looks kind of funny to see someone wearing a scarf in the summertime. We're thinking, "Why would you want to have something around your neck in this weather?" Well, regardless of how hot we may feel, it's one of those fashion trends that seems to be sticking no matter what the weather. And, I actually LOVE this trend for the same reason I love accessorizing and layering during the winter. So, I'm going to fall victim to this trend yet again and buy some really cool scarves! Urban Outfitters Gets it Wrong!

I LOVE Urban Outfitters!!! The styles are always right on, the price point is great, and they have stores everywhere, plus an awesome online store. So when I went to buy a swimsuit online for this summer, I was really excited to see what new styles they were going to have. When I opened the swimsuit portion of the site, my eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing. They chose the WRONG model to wear these suits! She has no waist! How did such a big brand get it so wrong? Customers are going to be completely distracted and probably leave the site immediately. UGH!

I would rather see a bunch of models with different shapes and sizes and show the variety of swimsuits appropriate for their shape. But of course, no retailer does this. Wishful thinking I suppose. Here are the wrong suits for her shape and right suits below. This a great example of how to wear the suits if you happen to have no waist, so I thank them for that.

DON'T

Don't wear a small print with a low hip line.

Don't wear straight vertical stripes if your hips are already straight linesDon't wear a boy cut suitDO

Do wear a suit that makes the eye look to the middle and up.
Do wear embellishments in the upper middle portion of your body.

I don't know why I haven't written about my husband's band yet. Better yet, my husband. His name is Bart and I think he has great style. So much so, I let me tell me what to wear. I don't care how much people think that because you're a stylist you know what to wear all the time because it's not true. Most of the time I get approval from Bart and he always tells me the truth which I really appreciate.

Bart plays for a band called Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband. I've had the pleasure of styling them on a few photo shoots though I didn't style this particular picture (below). It's been fun styling men because it's not something I usually do. In fact, I consider myself an idiot when it comes to menswear. But I gave it a try.

You'll love their music. It's kind of hard to pin down to a genre but I think it's a mixture of bluegrass, rock and country. Sort of sounds like Dave Matthews Band. Go ahead, click on a picture and you'll be directed to their website. Maybe they'll will be playing a venue near you soon.

My little girl was born on Dec. 2, 2008. It's been a great 6 weeks, or is it 7 now? (losing track of time these days) Having two kids is a lot easier than I thought. Lil' Zoe has been an angel for so far, which means I'm getting more than 5 hours of sleep at night.

Sundance, Models and Shaun White!

The other night I went to this great party put on by Elite and Vice Magazine. It was extremely exclusive (apparently that means you're cool if you get in) and there were plenty of supermodels and movie stars to hang out with. I had the pleasure of going with two of the models that I scouted: Daniel Vacca, and Erin Reese, both who will soon be HUGE successes! And never in my life have I witnessed two people who don't know each other wearing the SAME purple dress they've both owned for years. Daniele and Erin didn't think it was very funny but I was laughing.

Anyway, Erin Reese was cool enough to hang out with Shaun White and even go snowboarding with him the next day. NOT FAIR! Although I did enjoy leaving the party early to go home to my little baby. How lucky am I? Very, lil' Zoe B is way cooler than Shaun White. he he

Romancing The Season

I write the fashion column for Wasatch Woman magazine in Salt Lake City, Utah. It's a fun job, especially because I not only get to choose what I write but I get to put together photo shoots and style too. It's ideal! I LOVE winter, because I love coats and layering. It gives you an excuse to not only put more clothes on but be more creative as well. Here are a few of my favorite coats this season. If you're on a budget I suggest purchasing your coats somewhere like Forever 21 which is located in Salt Lake City and Provo. They offer really cute styles and surprisingly good quality for the price. If you don't mind spending a little more, Urban Outfitters has some fun stuff and French Connection. Unfortunately French Connection isn't located in Utah yet but their online store is great. Take a look!

Finding Superstars

In my spare time I've always kept an eye out for those who would be successful modeling and then I try to help them start their career by getting them signed with big agencies around the world. I've done this for about 5 years and only found a handful of people (it's not everyday you come by a supermodel). Recently I've taken more interest and decided to work for Stacey Eastman at Pulse Management (he actually sent me to Italy when I was 19) and who is also partnered with Elite Model Management in NYC. Yes, that's the Elite, the biggest of them all. So, I'm called a Director which gives me a lot of responsibilities educating models, and scouts but I also get to scout myself. It's sort of addictive. Plus, when you know you can connect good talent with reputable agencies around the world who don't scam people for money, it's even more fun.

About a month ago I was at the mall and walking around with my husband and son I happened to look over my shoulder behind me and see the most beautiful girl standing with her family checking herself out in the mirror with sun glasses. My body immediately turned around to take a second look to see if what I was really looking at WAS indeed a potential supermodel.
Well, only 4 weeks later she signed a 3 year contract with Elite in NYC and is now on her way to doing some really fun modeling work. Take a look, her name is Nicole and these photos are from her first ever photoshoot. I think she's a natural, don't you?

Nappi Clothing, Nothing Better!

Danny Nappi from Salt Lake City is probably the hottest designer to come from the beehive state. He's created a line that has the looks of French Connection, Diesel and Urban Outfitters packaged into one brand. I have to say, his jeans are my favorite and although they retail at $180.00, it's worth the buy considering the quality, fit and feel. It really doesn't get better. You NEED a pair. His other designs which aren't yet posted on his website are amazing too. Dresses, skirts, shorts, jackets. Look out for him because in no time his stuff will be all over and in high demand. Spring 2009 Trends! Some HOT some NOT!

I have to say, Spring 2009 is going to be one of my favorite seasons EVER. There are so many style elements and trends that are easy to wear. I LOVE the direction the designers are going.

The fashion shows are still happening (Italy and Paris) and I will be talking about more of these trends as they happen but here's what I notice so far. Some of the trends for spring are going to be a little out there, but watch and see, they'll be in full swing by fall 2009 and everyone will be wearing them. Look below for more details.

Solids: This trend is one of the easiest to wear. I mean, all you have to do is go through your closet and pick a color and put in on. How easy is that? Plus, wearing all one color tends to make people look more slim and tall. That's a great advantage!

This trend is one of my favorites and one that I wear a lot. Ethnic styles, patterns and colors.
I'll write more about this later because it's a great one and there are SO many varieties is style for 2009.
The long casual dress: These came in style spring 2008 and thank goodness, they will stay till next year. If anyone has a weird body variation they want to hide, wear a long dress with some sandals and you're sure to feel confident where ever you go. Last week I attended a wedding in Michigan and was debating what to wear. I love that I'm 7 months pregnant and that I have a cute bump, but I'll admit, it's not a body shape and variation I'm used to. I found the coolest long dress at Zara for only $60 and wore it to the wedding. It was great, no one really knew I was pregnant. He he.

I like to call these MC Hammer pants. Remember back in the early 90's when these were the hottest thing to wear? Gee's, they were terrible. BUT, they can be fun to wear and actually look good on you too. I'll write more about this soon because I want to show how to wear them best. Check back soon (like next week)!

I will also write about more trends for next year as well. I really haven't been this excited for a while so please come back!

Daring Prom Dresses

I know I'm way out of high school, and not doing the prom thing anymore but, every so often I'll be out and about on prom night. You know, when all the kids are prancing around with the dates they barely know and looking awkward as heck? I actually love gazing and observing their awkwardness because I love knowing I don't have to be in that situation anymore.

When I was little, I loved checking out the different types of prom dresses the girls would wear. And yes, I remember them being quite unique from one another. Well, you would think that in this day in age, when there are SO many options and AND opportunities to look different, they all look the same. I'm so tired of seeing the same dress on every girl. Okay, not the exact same thing but pretty much the same boring styles. It seems to be an "I'm still 8 years old and want to be a princess" thing or a "How can I look 35 years old and easy tonight?" thing.

If I were in high school again and had the chance to do the prom thing all over again, I would choose something similar to these dresses (below). I suppose I would probably have to make it rather than spend $2000+ on it but hey, it can actually be pretty easy. My advice: Take a chance and be different. That doesn't mean you have to wear less, just be more creative and consider the not so typical prom dress. Take a look.

By the way, Happy 4th of July...and yes, I do have plans tonight (putting my son to sleep at 8 and watching the fireworks from my balcony). Yeah..I'm cool.

Girls Get Dream Come True!

The Michele Bell Fashion Show last week went really well. We had 24 models all together and I spent countless hours styling them all but it was SO worth it and I have no doubt the girls had a great time. These 24 girls all submitted a photo and an essay (about why modesty is important to them). We had over 70 girls apply and I really wanted to use them all but unfortunately couldn't. Maybe in the future.

Anyway, I'll admit, getting 24 girls at Macy's all at one time and having to put them into an outfit that will not only compliment their body shape, but be something they love as well isn't that easy. As a Shape Stylist I took on the task and finished with relief knowing that every girl was going to look amazing on the runway. These are some of my favorite before and after shots. Kate Hudson Style!

Celebrities and their style. As much as we hate to admit it, we love to look at them, study what their wearing and try to do it ourselves. Kate Hudson may not have the best taste in clothes all the time ( it may be her stylist) but once in a while she wears something really great. Like this outfit. I love these colors together. The light pastel green, gray, brown, and red. You would never think to put any of these together but they actually work.

I also love the way she did it. Her cropped jacket gives her a higher leg line and makes her look taller. She also wore long jeans and barely lets those red shoes peak through. For being shorter than 5.5, I'd say she looks 5.8+. Isn't that the point?

While the stores are still trying to get rid of their winter 2007 inventory, you might as well take advantage of the marked down prices and start shopping for fall 2008. Lacoste came out with a really cute collection for this year. Big scarves, thick leggings and bulky sweaters. In my opinion, winter is all about wearing all three. Heck, even leg warmers are back in. You can make them look really cute if you wear them the right way and no one will think you came out of the 80's, I swear. Just take a look.

Same Look, Two Different Styles

Many clothing companies will often put out the same pattern in different ways. For example, French Connection has this as a blouse and a skirt. It's up to you how you choose to wear them. Do you pick one and style it with another garment or do you wear them together? This might help you choose.

**The look on the left would look great on someone who is a little bottom heavy (pear shape) because the focal point of the outfit is upward. The look on the right would be ideal for someone with broad shoulders or with bigger bust.

If you're really daring, go for this look. The necklace still brings the attention up towards the face, even though the pattern is really busy. Plus, by throwing in another color, it makes the pattern an accent instead of the main focal point.

If one morning, you're searching frantically for something colorful to wear and not feeling right about anything you put on (Admit it, we all change at least three times a day), wear white! It is Spring 2008's new color!

One of the great things about wearing a solid color is that you can break it up by accessorizing Sometimes, it's hard to accessorize when you have a print on, mostly because it's not easy matching your purse, shoes, bracelet, necklace with each other and to your outfit, but with solids, you don't have too. Plus, your accessories will be more noticeable too. I guarantee you'll get compliments from everyone who walks by!

Street Style!

I was walking home from the mall today and saw these two girls standing on the side of what was probably their parent's mini van. At first I glanced over and admired their cute style but after I passed them, I thought to myself, "What a good example of dressing for your body type, why not take a picture of them and blog about it?" Unfortunately I didn't have a good camera, I had to take the shots with my cell phone so I apologize for the quality. But don't they look cute?

The first girl isn't more than 13 years old, and a rectangle body shape- she looks fabulous! Here at Shape Candy the goal is to embrace your shape, be proud of it and dress accordingly right? She did a great job, instead of wearing something tight, she put on a cute tunic she got somewhere in San Fransisco. The color looks great on her as well, especially with her brown hair.

The second girl, her sister, is around 15 or 16 and is an hourglass shape (a little more curvy) She's also wearing a cute tunic, but I LOVE that her purse has the same blue as her shoe's and coordinates well with the black in her outfit.

It's hard to find young girls these days who are confident enough to look this good. I'm sure that sounds strange, but I strongly believe there are so many who are trying to look well beyond their years and they do that by wearing inappropriate clothing. For example, it's been a long winter and finally this week it warmed up. Well, I went to an outdoor mall that day and of course, almost every teenage girl found an excuse to wear short shorts and spaghetti strap tanks. Okay, it was warm but it wasn't THAT warm. Good for THESE girls below, may the girls at the mall look to them as an example!

Britney Spear's Unfortunate Style!

This poor girl, I really tried to avoid using her as an example because of what the media has done to her already (and what she's done to herself) but I can't help it. She's really one of the only celebrities that consistently has bad taste. I don't know who her stylist is, but if she has one, they NEED to be fired! And if she doesn't have one, then WHY NOT? Please, someone save her from going down in history as one of the world' worst dressed!

Anyway, I decided to try to find at least some pictures of her actually looking stylish. It was really difficult and I was only able to find one where she looks great. So, in effort to give her some credit for dressing for her body shape, even if it is rare, here she is looking pretty bad and then, pretty dang good for being Britney Spears. Good job Brit!

DON'T: wear too tight of jeans that are torn. These must have taken her hours to put on.
DON'T: Let it hang out
DO: wear a black jacket that hides those hips with nice fitted jeans and brown boots.

Not your common swimsuits!

Okay, so we all know how easy it is to find bikinis. But where do you go when you want to buy a one piece, especially one that doesn't make you feel like you're 70 years old? Urban Outfitter's finally caught on to the fact that there are many women who prefer to cover up a little and still look trendy. Here are just a few suits they have for sale right now. Take a look at which suit makes you shapecandy:
This suit would be so cute on someone with rectangle body shape because of the way it's cut on the hips. It gives the appearance that you're more curvy.

Black looks good on everyone and this would look great on most body shapes. Though, for inverted triangle body shape, because of the way it straps over the neck it would make the shoulders look more broad than they already are.

Pay attention to where your eyes focus. Notice the pink/blue line right down the middle? This is an ideal focal point and would make anyone look thinner.
